Christian films can be inspiring, uplifting, sad and redemptive. They can draw us closer to God, calling to our spirit to wake up and listen to what God has for us.

1. The Passion of the Christ (2004)

Directed by Mel Gibson, this intense and graphic film focuses on the final 12 hours of Jesus Christ’s life. Told primarily in Aramaic and Latin, it emphasizes the brutality of Christ’s suffering and crucifixion—meant to confront viewers with the depth of His sacrifice. It’s revered for its realism and impact.


2. Heaven Is for Real (2014)

Based on the real-life story of 3-year-old Colton Burpo, who claims he visited Heaven during a near-death experience. His vivid descriptions challenge his father, a pastor, and stir up controversy and wonder in their small town. A film about faith, childlike innocence, and the tension between belief and doubt.


3. I Can Only Imagine (2018)

This is the powerful backstory of how MercyMe’s lead singer Bart Millard wrote the hit Christian song “I Can Only Imagine.” It explores Bart’s abusive childhood, his journey toward forgiveness, and the transformation of his father through faith—highlighting redemption and healing through Christ.


4. War Room (2015)

A spiritual drama about a couple whose marriage is falling apart until an elderly prayer warrior mentors the wife. Through strategic prayer (her “war room”), God begins to restore what was broken. The film promotes prayer as a weapon in life’s spiritual battles.


5. Fireproof (2008)

Caleb, a firefighter, is losing his marriage to neglect and selfishness. When his father challenges him to a 40-day “Love Dare,” everything changes. This film is about unconditional love, biblical marriage, and transformation through Christ-centered commitment.


6. God’s Not Dead (2014)

Josh, a Christian college student, stands up to an atheist philosophy professor who demands students deny God’s existence. The film is a bold apologetic that dives into modern-day debates around Christianity in academia, encouraging believers to defend their faith.


7. Miracles from Heaven (2016)

Based on the true story of a young girl with a rare, incurable disease who is miraculously healed after a near-death fall. Her recovery baffles doctors and reignites her family’s faith. A moving testimony of divine intervention, perseverance, and the power of a mother’s love.


8. Soul Surfer (2011)

Tells the story of Bethany Hamilton, a young surfer who loses her arm in a shark attack. With deep faith and determination, she overcomes immense physical and emotional challenges to return to competitive surfing. A testament to courage, resilience, and God’s purpose through pain.


9. The Shack (2017)

After the abduction and murder of his daughter, a grieving father encounters God (portrayed as the Trinity) in a mystical shack. The film wrestles with themes of suffering, forgiveness, justice, and intimacy with God in the midst of unimaginable loss.


10. Son of God (2014)

A cinematic retelling of the life of Jesus, from His birth to resurrection. Less graphic than The Passion, it focuses more on His teachings, miracles, and love for humanity. It presents a gentle but powerful portrayal of Christ’s mission and divinity.

Notable mention, number 11. Check out “The Forge” as well. It’s a film about a young man who has an estranged relationship with his earthly father. He get’s a job at a local business where the owner of the business is a Christian and he speaks life and truth into him. The young man decides to follow Christ and lives under more blessing, provision and growth for his obedience.
